Dr. Steinberg works with children ages 7 and up, adolescents, and adults using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). With CBT, she specializes in anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, school anxiety, school refusal, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and general worry; mood disorders; stress management; and family and relationship issues. She also treats attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and behavioral disorders. For DBT, Dr. Steinberg provides either the individual therapy component or the family skills training/adult skills training component. In either case, another professional is seen for the individual DBT work, or for the family skills training/adult skills training. She does DBT with adolescents, young adults, and adults. Dr. Steinberg’s approach also includes mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MBCT), and she incorporates mindfulness into all of her work as needed. Her sessions are 45 minutes, and are usually once per week, with more as needed. Dr. Steinberg sees individuals, couples, and parents. Couples work focuses on conflict and communication issues, often surrounding issues with an adolescent or parenting. She also treats individuals going through difficult life transitions including adjustment to college or a new job, divorce, and postpartum (after childbirth) depression and anxiety. The typical length of treatment varies, but is usually between 3 to 12 months. Treatment is goal-focused. Dr. Steinberg offers CBT consultation, training and workshops in schools on how to do CBT. Her office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, day and evening. She is not on insurance company panels, and so is out-of-network for insurance.
