Jonathan Slater, M.D., One Bridge Street, Irvington, NY 10533. Jonathan Slater, M.D., is a psychiatrist in private practice in Irvington, NY. Dr. Slater is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, in adult psychiatry, and in psychosomatic medicine. He sees patients that range in age from toddlers to grandparents, although most of his patients are children, adolescents, and college-age young adults. Dr. Slater sees people with serious medical problems, such as seizures, diabetes, cerebral palsy, or genetic disorders, who are also experiencing emotional problems, known as consultation-liaison psychiatry, as well as people with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety disorders, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, somatic symptom disorder, including those with recurrent, unexplained stomachaches, and those experiencing everyday angst and pressure about issues such as getting good grades. He helps kids get instructional services and accommodations at school, as well as those who have problems when they get to college, including anxiety, depression, or disciplinary issues. Dr. Slater provides medication and/or psychodynamic psychotherapy. His approach also incorporates his knowledge of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Individual therapy sessions are 45 minutes. For medication-only, those newly on medication will meet once a week or every two weeks, and when the medication is stable, will meet a minimum of once every three months. For these patients, he and their therapists are in touch as needed. Dr. Slater also does school consultations, including psychiatric evaluations of students referred by a school district. He attends Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings on behalf of students who are patients. Dr. Slater does forensic psychiatry work, including testifying as an expert witness, in cases that include, for example, reviewing records for children who were under the care of another doctor, or when things have happened in a hospital. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Slater is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry (in Pediatrics), Department of Psychiatry, at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons; Senior Attending, Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service, at Children’s Hospital of New York; and an Attending Child Psychiatrist, Pediatric Cardiac Transplant Service, Children’s Hospital of New York, New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He supervises child and adolescent psychiatric residents and psychology interns.
