Dean McKay, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., 333 Westchester Avenue, Lower North building, White Plains, NY 10604. Dean McKay, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in White Plains, NY. Dr. McKay’s private practice is part of the Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy & Research, which is directed by Dr. McKay and another psychologist, and consists of five additional consulting psychologists. In his practice, Dr. McKay uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, including obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. He works people with the full range of obsessive compulsive symptoms, including contamination fears, as well as intrusive thoughts, such as those about blasphemy or worry about offending. He is a Professor of Psychology at Fordham University, and teaches in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program; he also has a research lab there. He is currently the President of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. His private practice office hours are Monday afternoon and evening, and Tuesday late morning, afternoon, and evening. Sessions are 40-50 minutes, and are usually once per week, although he will schedule a double session or meet twice per week as needed. For children, in addition to meeting with parents at the end of each session to review targets to be worked on during the week, he schedules parent-only sessions every 3-4 sessions. Most people see some symptom relief in 6-8 sessions, and are in treatment for no more than 20-25 sessions. He does not take insurance, but does help people to get reimbursed from their insurance companies. He points out that under Timothy’s law, in New York state, insurance companies are mandated to cover treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder.
