The Bereavement Center, 670 White Plains Road, Suite 213, Scarsdale, NY 10583. The Bereavement Center, Scarsdale, NY, offers individual sessions and groups for those who have lost a loved one. Individual sessions and groups are with a social worker or psychologist. An adult group for parents who have lost a child meets twice per month, the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, throughout the year. A group for adults who have lost a spouse, a group for adults who have lost a parent, and a group for adults who have lost a sibling are each run twice per year, Fall and Spring, for 8 weeks. Individual sessions are Monday through Friday; day and evening hours are available. The fee for individual sessions is $70 per session. Groups have a suggested donation. The Bereavement Center also has a school outreach program. The Bereavement Center will go into a school and train staff and faculty, particularly school social workers, psychologists, and guidance counselors, in how to start a bereavement group in one’s school and what curriculum to use for the group. Upon request, the Bereavement Center will have a professional co-lead a group with a school faculty member for 8-10 weeks; there is a fee for this service. The Bereavement Center participates each year in the Guidance Expo, a gathering of elementary, middle school, and high school guidance counselors, and leads training workshops for the guidance counselors on child-based grief and loss. The Bereavement Center is located in a professional office building that is part of a larger shopping plaza, with plenty of available parking.
