Angela R. Giuffra, L.C.S.W.R., 7 Ridgecrest West, Scarsdale, NY 10583. Angela Giuffra, L.C.S.W.R., is a social worker and psychotherapist in private practice in Scarsdale, NY. Ms. Giuffra works with adolescents, ages 9 and up, young adults, and adults in individual therapy, as well as with families and couples. Issues that bring people to see her include anxiety, mood disorders including depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders. Ms. Giuffra’s approach is based on three modalities: somatic experiencing (SE), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and internal family systems (IFS). She describes them all as experiential, and as mindful practices that help people tune in to the mind and the body. This increase in awareness of not just their mind, but their body helps people to identify and regulate their emotions. As a person talk’s about a problem or issue, the therapist will ask what the person feels in his or her body, and developing these awareness tools helps the person to realize how emotional dysregulation is impacting him or her. In eating disorders treatment, Ms. Giuffra collaborates with other professionals, building a multi-disciplinary team, and referring out as needed for increased levels of support. In addition to the other models, Ms. Giuffra uses emotionally focused therapy (EFT) in her approach to couples therapy. She describes emotionally focused therapy as based on attachment theory, and as helping each person to tune in to what is going on in relation to the other person when a couple is focusing on an issue. In addition to her psychotherapy work, Ms. Giuffra offers workshops in the community on mindfulness practices, for example to school children to give them tools to deal with the anxiety of transitions into middle school, high school, or college. Her psychotherapy sessions are 50-60 minutes, once a week, although for some with a higher need, sessions can be twice a week for a time. The typical length of treatment varies; it is usually in the range of 4-6 months, although some treatment can be shorter, such as a few sessions focused on one problem, or can be longer, for a few years. Her office hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. She is primarily an out-of-network provider, but is on two insurance company panels: Cigna and POMCO. Her home office has its own entrance through the gate on the right side of the house, and around the back to the patio; parking is on the street.
