Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants of Westchester and Manhattan is a group private practice in White Plains, NY. Clinicians in the practice use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for people across the life span, for children ages 3 and up through adulthood. Presenting problems for children, adolescents, young adults and adults include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), behavioral difficulties, disruptive behavior, conduct disorder, substance-related disorders, binge-eating disorder, personality disorders, self-injury, and suicidality. Treatment includes individual treatment, group treatment, and parent training. DBT treatment has 4 separate tracks, including the tween DBT program, the adolescent DBT program, the young adult DBT program, and the adult DBT program. DBT treatment includes individual DBT, a group skills training which for tweens and adolescents is a multifamily group, 24 hour a day coaching from one’s individual therapist, and for parents of tweens and adolescents, coaching from the multifamily group leader. Additionally, family sessions are held as necessary. A skills and support group for parents of young adults in DBT treatment will begin September 8, 2015; it will be 16 weeks long. The adolescent DBT program is 24 weeks (6 months) long; its multifamily group is relatively small, with a maximum of 4 or 5 teenagers, so that the group size is 12-14 people, with two co-leaders. The young adult DBT program and the adult DBT program are 32 weeks (8 months) long. Once these programs are completed, there is a tween graduate group which will start in Fall 2015, and there is an adolescent graduate group. CBT treatment includes individual treatment and group treatment. Current CBT groups are as follows: a child social skills group that includes those with autism spectrum disorder, for children ages 7-10; a child anxiety group, for children ages 8-12; an adolescent anxiety disorders group, for those with social anxiety and other anxiety disorders, that will start in September 2015; and an adult anxiety disorders group. Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants of Westchester and Manhattan offers DBT training in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools, in which school personnel, including psychologists, social workers, guidance counselors, and special education teachers, are trained to deliver comprehensive DBT. After the DBT training, consultants return regularly to the school for 2 years.
