Mental Health Association of Westchester, Sterling Community Center, White Plains, NY, is a wellness-oriented community center with classes, employment services, and peer support specialists, for adults, 17 years and older, who have a diagnosis of serious mental health disorder. The program is goal-oriented, and includes the opportunity to train in the culinary arts, as well as peer support specialist training. There is an emphasis on supporting people as they engage in the broader community. The Sterling community center is described as having large spaces, including the Armando’s Cafe dining room, where people can eat lunch as well as where those training in the culinary arts can use their skills, and is outfitted with computers/technology. The Sterling community center is located in a stand-alone building in an area of the city of White Plains where the commercial blends into a residential neighborhood.
