Melissa Singer, Ph.D., 153 Main Street, Suite D1, Mount Kisco, NY 10549. Melissa Singer, Ph.D., is a psychologist in private practice in Mount Kisco, NY. Dr. Singer conducts cognitive, psychological and personality testing as part of comprehensive individual assessment for children as young as six, adolescents, and young adults. Cognitive functions assessed include attention, executive functioning, memory, language skills and information processing. Personality testing can look at anxiety, mood, how a person solves problems, how a person makes decisions, and how he or she interacts with others. The most common reason for an evaluation is that a child is struggling in school and nobody is sure why. Possible questions include the following: does the child have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a learning disability, for example a language problem such as dyslexia, executive functioning difficulty, anxiety, a mood disorder, or an Autism spectrum disorder? Dr. Singer uses only normed and standardized tests in her assessment batteries. The testing and evaluation process involves an initial meeting, in which she has the parents pinpoint questions they would like answered by the assessment. The testing itself is conducted over the course of two full days, starting at 8:30 a.m., with a break for lunch, and then finishing at approximately 2 or 2:30 p.m. for younger children, and 3:30 or 4 p.m. for teenagers. After the testing, there is a four to five week turnaround time until the testing report is produced. At that time, a feedback session is scheduled. Dr. Singer meets with the parents for 1 to 1 1/2 hours for feedback, and then with the child for 5-10 minutes for feedback. In the report and at the feedback session, Dr. Singer gives very thorough recommendations, including referrals when indicated, that might include tutoring for remediation, and might include therapy, such as psychotherapy, social skills group, or medication consultation. She refers out for all treatment. In some instances, Dr. Singer is retained to attend a Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings at a school, where she talks about the testing report and advocates for the child. Dr. Singer’s hours are by appointment, Monday through Friday. Her office is located in a suite, in a professional building in town. There is on-street metered parking, and a large parking lot with metered parking nearby. She is not on insurance company panels. Please contact Dr. Singer by phone at (646) 535-1222.
