Dr. Herrick sees children, adolescents, and young adults, ages 5-23, and some older adult patients. He sees people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, including obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and panic disorder with agoraphobia, school refusal, aggression and disruptive disorders. He provides therapy and medication for the majority of his patients, and medication management only for other patients; he is willing to co-treat patients with other professionals. Dr. Herrick’s psychotherapy is informed by cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and includes behavioral techniques such as behavior modification. He also incorporates his dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) training into treatment. Dr. Herrick describes his approach as a systems one, in that he recognizes that a child lives in an environment that includes school, parents and peers. Intake sessions are 1 hour 15 minutes; follow-up sessions are 45 minutes. Dr. Herrick typically alternates every one or two sessions with a child with a session with the parents. His office hours are Monday and Wednesday evenings, 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Dr. Herrick is not on insurance company panels, but he does provide invoices to submit to one’s insurance company. He is happy to help if a patient wishes to contest a decision by an insurance company. Dr. Herrick is a professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, and works full-time as part of the Behavioral Health Integration Program at Montefiore. His private practice office is located in a suite of offices in a building with office space above retail space; there is plenty of parking, and the building is convenient to two major highways.
