Bob Bartlett, Ph.D., 297 Knollwood Road, Suite 208, White Plains, NY 10607. Bob Bartlett, Ph.D. is a psychologist in private practice in White Plains, NY. Dr. Bartlett sees children, preschool age through teenage, and adults in individual psychotherapy. He works with children on a wide range of issues. Dr. Bartlett works with children with neurodevelopment disorders, such as Autism, on basic relatedness, language, how to develop symbolic thinking, and developing symbolic play skills. Often the children are also in social skills groups at other programs, while he works with them one-on-one in individual psychotherapy. Dr. Bartlett also sees children whose parents are separating or divorcing, children with learning difficulties whose self-esteem is suffering, and children with anxiety or depression. He also works with children who have a parent who is unwell psychiatrically, whether the parent is in treatment or not. Dr. Bartlett works with adults in individual psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, and with couples. He works with teenagers and those in their 20s who are struggling with identity questions, including their sexuality, for example, those who are considering gender transitioning, who are gender transitioning, and those who think they might be gay but are not sure. He also sees those in their 20s who are struggling with identity issues such as how to establish oneself professionally, or how to establish oneself as separate from one’s parents. Dr. Bartlett works with adults who have had trauma in the past such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect, and who have done well in setting up their life, but issues regarding intimacy in a relationship now bring them into treatment. He also sees people who are experiencing setbacks professionally. Dr. Bartlett works with couples on issues including infidelity, difficulties with intimacy, and difficulties with communication. Dr. Bartlett’s approach is open-ended talk therapy. He points out that with kids, the skill-building happens in the context of play, and in the context of the relationship between him and the child. Dr. Bartlett also does parent therapy, in which he meets with the parents only, without the child present, to strategize and to think very carefully about where the child is in his or her development, with a focus on both empathy for the child and helping the parents to develop a sense of themselves as parents. Dr. Bartlett’s psychotherapy sessions are 45 minutes. The length of treatment is typically one to two years, although it is sometimes shorter. In addition to psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, Dr. Bartlett supervises graduate students and licensed psychologists who opt for ongoing supervision. This spring and summer, he is teaching a seminar at the William Alanson White Institute in New York City. Dr. Bartlett is in his Westchester office on Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. He also has an office in Manhattan. He is not on insurance company panels, and so is out-of-network.
